Landscape
Landscape is a word that encompases many things and many scales. The landscaping in a yard, apartment complex or public building may be the first thing that comes to mind on a primarily real estate website. Landscape also has a regional context and there are agricultural aspects as well.
If you are new to the area, you may have been bowled over by the Atlanta landscape. In the 1980’s, Post Properties was founded. Post develops and maintains apartment communities around the country, but here in Atlanta it had an in house landscape division which it held to very high standards. Post’s founder, John Williams, was convinced that maintaining a spectacular landscape would attract, and keep, customers. It worked, and Post still follows that idea. As a result, other apartment communities were forced to try and keep up, or look bad by comparison. This industry specific ‘turf war’ raised the landscape standards for the whole city – commercial, multi-family residential, and single family homes.
In addition to the great color and variety we see in maintained landscapes throughout the area, Atlanta is a surprisingly ‘green’ city for it’s size. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area contributes to this impression with 15 separate locations beginning in the north at Lake Sidney Lanier and moving south along the river. The southernmost location is Palisades, just inside the Perimeter ( I-285) at the intersection of I-75 map.
